On the Island there are a number of self-guided walks and cycle-rides that enable you to enjoy our rivers and also the surrounding countryside and settlements.
Many of the walks and cycle-rides follow some of the Island’s old railway lines, which in their time took advantage of the valley floors. The Medina Estuary Walk, Red Squirrel Trail, Western Yar Estuary Walk, East Yar River Trail, Scotchells Brook Trail and Wroxall Stream Trail are examples of these.
Others are introductions to the island’s heritage, which in turn was often-shaped by access to water. The Mill Trail follows the Medina River and Lukely Brook, whilst Cowes Boat Trail is an introduction to the rich maritime heritage on both sides of the Medina at Cowes.
For those who prefer guided walks, the twice annual Isle of Wight Walking Festival has a selection of walks that visit the Island’s rivers and streams.
