The Eastern Yar is the main river in the East Wight, and the longest river on the Island, rising in Niton and flowing out to the sea at Bembridge Harbour. The Yar and its tributaries including Wroxall Stream and Scotchells Brook drain much of the east side of the Island.
A series of streams drain most of the north-east of the Island, flowing into the Solent. These include Binstead Stream, Palmers Brook, Blackbridge Brook and Monkton Mead.
The Island has few bogs, but both Bohemia Bog and Munsley Bog are in the East Wight.
Down To The Coast is a programme that focus on the uniquely intricate and diverse landscapes formed by the rivers draining the eastern tip of the Isle of Wight. Between now and 2020 a series of projects will work to enhance some of the rivers of the East Wight, better record and interpret them, and increase public understanding and enjoyment. As the programme progresses, we will be updating these webpages.
